Usiba 2026: A Different Kind of Writing Retreat

From 14–17 April 2026, the Optentia Research Unit hosted the Usiba Writing Retreat at Khaya iBhubesi — bringing together PhD candidates and researchers from North-West University for an intensive, supported writing experience.

What made Usiba different? We didn't just create space to write — we brought the support to the writers.

Participants had access to: mentorship by senior researchers, information technology and library services, AS review support for systematic literature work, qualitative and quantitative data analysis assistance, keynote presentations and specialist workshops

The retreat provided a valuable opportunity to work closely with my PhD candidates on their research projects.
