From the Page into Practice
Planning for the launch of Capabilities at Work: The Added Value of the Capability Model for Well-Being and Work is well underway. Earlier this month, an Optentia delegation visited Momentum in Centurion to view the facilities for the launch on 23 September 2026 — and they are excellent.
This is more than a book launch. This is more than a book launch. It contributes a new perspective on work and well-being: an interdisciplinary approach, built on the Capability Approach, that asks not only whether people have resources and rights, but whether the conditions exist to convert them into sustainable employability and a flourishing working life.
Hosting the event at a leading South African financial institution, in the Gauteng economic hub, is a deliberate choice. It places the launch within reach of the University of Pretoria, the University of Johannesburg, UNISA, Wits, TUT and other institutions, as well as businesses headquartered in the region. It brings the research to precisely the audience — universities, industry and policy — whose engagement gives a new paradigm the chance to move from the page into practice.
Our thanks to Rene Janse van Rensburg (Momentum), Jonathan Lang (Siyanda Events), Christina and Juanita of Feisty Communications, Piet Steyn and Ethan Terblanche of NWU Marketing and Communication, and Optentia colleagues Amanda Erasmus and Anjonet Jordaan. We are looking forward to a great event!
